Scope

The EMX Heat Index tracks the cost of atmospheric discharge allowance across the Xigang delivery regions and the orbital radiator slot market. It is quoted in index points with a base of 100 equal to the weighted base prices of the reference contracts on 2151-01-02.

One allowance unit entitles the holder to discharge one megawatt of waste heat for one day (MW·d) within the stated delivery region. Allowances originate from the Xigang Alliance share allocated under the global accord and are recorded by the Coolant Authority.

Constituents

SEA-SPR, the Inner Sea summer spread, is published on the monitor for hedging reference and is not an index constituent.

Calculation

Indicative model

Between desk prints the monitor shows model prices. The model is published so that members can reproduce every number on the screen:

• a seasonal heat-load term that peaks in late July, when the Inner Sea runs warmest;
• an intraday load hump that rises from the 09:00 open to a peak near 13:00 and falls into the 17:00 close;
• slow multi-week drift on 23- and 61-session cycles;
• registered desk events, such as the Thursday coastal pump-service window, announced on the wire before they apply.

Model prices are indicative. Settlement uses the 17:00 desk fixing.
